LARAS House

LARAS House is dedicated to giving a voice and a safe haven to homeless and at-risk animals who have nowhere else to turn. As a compassionate no-kill shelter, we provide lifesaving rescue, medical care, and rehabilitation to hundreds of abused, abandoned, and neglected pets every year. Our adoption program matches these animals with loving families, ensuring each pet gets a second chance at happiness. Through our outreach and low-cost veterinary services, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, and preventative care, we work to end pet overpopulation and suffering at its source. Since our founding, Laras House has stood as a beacon of hope for the voiceless, committed to creating a community where every animal is valued and cared for.

Meet Asher

Asher was picked up on June 8, 2022, after having been tied up for an unknown length of time. He eventually managed to chew through his rope and escape. When we found him, he was severely emaciated—skin and bones—with significant skin issues and infested with ticks and fleas. We removed at least twenty ticks, treated him for parasites, and made sure he received a rabies shot.

His condition was heartbreaking. His middle teeth and canines were ground down, likely from gnawing on the rope for so long, and he had no front teeth at all. To make matters worse, Asher was heartworm positive. Despite all of this, the person who called for help feared he was aggressive, but all he truly wanted was food and kindness. He was so hungry that, if he’d had teeth, he might have bit Brandy’s finger just out of desperation.

Once we took Asher in, we started treating his skin and heartworms right away. Over the course of a year, his skin healed, his heartworm count dropped, and he is likely heartworm-free today. Asher’s transformation has been incredible, and he is now thriving in his new home.

LARAS House

LARAS House Shelter is a 501(c)3 No-Kill Animal Rescue Organization located in Mexia, Limestone County, Texas. The organization started in 2008, and our shelter opened its doors in 2010. At any given time we may house as many as 100 + dogs and puppies and often a similar number of cats and kittens at both the shelter and in our foster care homes.
