Gulf Coast Humane Society

Since 1947, the Gulf Coast Humane Society has remained committed to our mission: to be a safe haven for pets in need by providing medical care, promoting adoptions, and nurturing the bond between pets and people in Southwest Florida.

Every donation helps ensure we can continue our vital work. We'll be here for the next Peter or next JoJo, the pets that need us, and the next, and the next, because we know how much they matter. Every pet that enters our doors has a chance a better life because of people like you.

Meet JoJo & Annabelle

JoJo
In early 2025, JoJo came to us broken, literally. It was clear she had suffered, likely hit by a car multiple times. Her rear leg and pelvis were severely damaged, and she could barely stand. When JoJo arrived, she was covered in fleas and filth, too weak to lift her head. Other vets recommended euthanasia, but when we looked into JoJo's eyes, she was ready to give up. With tears in our eyes, we began the process of giving JoJo a chance. Over the next few weeks in foster care, JoJo began to heal. When she was strong enough, we performed surgery to remove the leg she could no longer use and, during recovery, we also successfully removed a cancerous mammary tumor. JoJo went from a neglected street dog to a beloved pet in her foster mom's arms, and ultimately, JoJo found her forever home with the person who had given her the love and care she deserved.

JoJo is not just a story of survival; hers, like others, is a story of hope, compassion, and second chances.

Annabelle

I adopted Annabeth, now known as Annabelle, on January 17th. She’s getting so big, and she has such a loving personality. I’m a diabetic, and I’m working on training her to help me with my diabetes. Before I even started training, she started coming up to me and putting her nose by my mouth and smelling me. She’s already alerting to my high and low blood sugar. She puts her paw on my arm if I need to eat or take insulin. She is absolutely amazing! I love her so much!
